Solar water distillation

Solar distillation is the use of solar energy to evaporate water and collect its condensate within the same closed system. Unlike other forms of water purification it can turn salt, brackish or polluted water into fresh drinking water.

The “Solar Still”

The company “Kascade” is an innovative Dutch company which developed a patented “Solar Still“ which makes it possible to produce drinking water from any water source only using solar energy. It is one of the most effcient and cost effective desalination systems and it has many advantages compared to other systems like reversed osmoses or flash evaporating. The most important advantages of the system are:

  • Simplicity
  • Durability
  • No use of fossil energy
  • Friendly for the environment
  • Low cost price

The Kascade “Solar Still” is a modular system that can be built in any size depending on the required water quantity. It can provide households, schools, villages or even water factories. No special skills are required to operate the system.

The Kascade “Solar Still” is a glass and aluminium construction made from first quality materials. Our many years of experience in Dutch greenhouse construction made it possible to develop a very solid and enduring product with an estimated lifetime of at least 30 years.

No fossil fuel

Only a small pump is needed to fill the storage tanks. The energy needed for this can be generated by solar panels. The “Solar Still” can be built at any location and is 100% self supporting.

Friendly for the environment

The Kascade “Solar Still” can be built and relocated without leaving a trace. All materials can be recycled and there is no waste involved in the process of purifying. In case of desalination, the remaining salt is dry material which can be harvested and commercialized.

Low cost price

By using the patented Kascade system not only water can be desalinated or purified, also rainwater can be harvested on a large scale depending on the size of the “Solar Still”. Maximum production capacity calculated by the Technical University Delft is 10 liters per m2 “Solar Still” per day which results in an extremely low cost price compared to other systems.

Other applications

The “Solar Still” can easily be modified into a solar dryer. The solar dryer can be used to dry fish, fruit etc.

Custom made solutions

Kascade is specialized in custom made solutions. We can provide large water desalination systems for agricultural/horticultural purposes but also smaller systems for individual households. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your personal needs. Together we will find a solution that will meet your requirements.
